Esther 3 presents a dramatic confrontation between Haman, Persia’s newly promoted chief official, and Mordecai, the one man who refuses to bow. Haman’s wounded pride awakens an ancient hatred associated with Agag and Amalek, turning one personal offense into a plan to destroy the entire Jewish population of Persia.
